User PaulShark

Well, that was disappointing. User PaulShark seemed to be interested only in spamming P&P with links to his blog on another site.

I explained to him that we'd love to have him blogging here, and he'd even be allowed to link to his site as long as there was something of value in his posts.

His response was to continue submitting link-only posts, which I deleted. I was willing to wait until he decided whether he'd like to play nice, but instead he's asked in repeated angry tones to be removed. It does not break my heart to grant his request.

Thanks to everyone else for your patience. I'd like to err on the side of less administrative interference whenever possible. I think the community can handle a few blowhards now and again if it means everyone else feels free to speak their mind in an open forum.

Just a reminder, you all have administrative privileges on your own posts. If anyone posts comments that you think are offensive, you're welcome to edit or delete them. We're also adding abuse reporting soon. So on posts you don't own, you can let me know right away if someone is getting out of hand.

Abusive users like the one we just had draw a sharp contrast to the rest of our contributors here. Many thanks to all of you for the great community we've built together.

Brent...

Splits, Delistings, and Renamed Tickers

We've struggled with this issue for quite some time now. Though we do share some data with Zacks, our parent company, we still haven't successfully integrated data on special events that affect stock prices, like splits and renamed tickers.

We are working on an automated solution, but for now all of those adjustments still have to be done manually. So it often takes a day or three before split adjustments are made That can affect your score in the meantime. We have some alerts in place that help me to catch most of them, but it's not foolproof.

If there's a stock in your portfolio that went through a split, you're welcome to report it here so we can make the adjustment more promptly.

Thanks,

Brent...

Sticky Discussion Topics

The quality of discussion on the P&P Blogs is really great. It's so encouraging to see the posts that get pages and pages of comments to combine our knowledge and experience so we all can learn together.

It seems very temporary, though. Many of the same topics may appear again and again but because we always highlight the newest posts, some great discussions can become lost.

We'd like to make it easy for someone who's interested in a specific company, industry, research metric or technique to see all the posts on that topic.

One of the simplest ways would be to start allowing you to enter your own Tags for your blog posts. That way, you can tell us what your post is about, and make it easy to categorize and search for other posts with the same subject matter.

What do you think? Would you welcome the opportunity to tag your blog posts with keywords so they can be more easily sorted and searched? Do you think anyone should be able to tag any post, or should only the author and admins have that ability?

If you have other ideas on how blog posts could become a more lasting and useful resource, it would be great to hear from you....
