Fujitsu has selected Atmel Corporation’s (ATML) Atmel maXTouch solution for its docomo's REGZA Phone T-01C touchscreen. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Japan's NTT docomo will exclusively sell Fujitsu's smartphone docomo REGZA phone T-01C , which features a 12.2-megapixel camera, 4-inch touchscreen, TV, infrared communications, 720p video recording, GSM, Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi. Additionally, the smartphone has Mobile REGZA Engine 3.0 enabling TV, YouTube™ and other videos on mobile devices.

The Atmel maXTouch solution was chosen because of its robust features, allowing smartphone users 10-simultaneous touches, 3x better power consumption than the industry's best, and much faster response times.

Management stated that this Japanese contract continues to demonstrate the expansion of the company’s maXTouch solutions in other markets.

The Atmel maXTouch solution was also selected by LG Electronics Mobile for its G-Slate 8.9-inch Android tablet touch screen. The G-Slate PC tablet marks LG Electronics Mobile's entry into the tablet market. Powered by Atmel's mXT1386 maXTouch™ solution and NVIDIA's Tegra 2 1GHz processor, G-Slate runs on Honeycomb, the 3.0 version of the Android operating system.

Earlier, Atmel's maXTouch collaborated with NVIDIA’s Tegra™ 2 mobile super chip to bring high-performance, multi-touch, large-format touchscreen solutions to market, powering touchscreens up to 15 inches.

Management is positive on expanding the company’s touch-sensing market beyond smartphones into new applications such as tablets, netbooks, cameras, printers, automotive and other areas.

We believe that Atmel will improve its cost structure and unlock value as it is transforming itself into a purely microcontroller-based company. Further, Atmel’s aggressive marketing for the new maxTouch technology allures new products with high-profile touch customers, including Nokia (NOK), Sharp, Toshiba, Motorola (MMI) and HTC.

Based in San Jose, California, Atmel designs and manufactures microcontrollers, capacitive touch solutions, advanced logic, mixed-signal, nonvolatile memory and radio frequency components.
