Allscripts-Misys Healthcare Solutions Inc. (MDRX) has recently entered into an agreement with a new client, Community Medical & Dental Care, a federally qualified health center (FQHC). Per the agreement, Community Medical & Dental Care has selected Allscripts’ Health Center Solution for their 30 multispecialty physicians. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Allscripts’ Health Center Solution includes the Electronic Health Record (EHR), Practice Management and advanced reporting functionality. The solution is designed to meet the unique clinical, administrative and financial needs of FQHCs and other community health clinics that focus on the uninsured and the economically disadvantaged.
The U.S. government has allocated $1.5 billion in federal grants for FQHCs over the next two years. Several FQHCs plan to use the money to implement EHR for their health centers.
Allscripts' EHR is a software that automates the process of writing prescriptions. The EHR system enables physicians to send prescriptions directly to a pharmacy via e-mail. It has been proven that the effective use of EHR system reduces medical errors, enhances clinical quality and leads to better patient outcomes by providing real-time access to patient records.
The U.S. government is increasingly emphasizing the use of EHR system these days, as evident from the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008. For the first time ever, the Act provides financial incentives to physicians who adopt e-prescribing. The Act requires adoption of this practice by 2011.

In October 2008, the company merged with Misys Plc, global applications software and services company, to form Allscripts−Misys Healthcare Solutions Inc.
