The leading personal computer maker
Hewlett-Packard Co. (
HPQ) announced its intention of entering into a technical collaboration with Systems Biology Ireland (SBI) to give a new dimension to life science research, by using mathematics and computers to resolve biological research issues.
This new research initiative taken by SBI will be using HP’s storage technology to study the biological behavior of cells through the use of technical models. Data storage has become an integral part of modern day life science research, so SBI will be deploying the HP StorageWorks 9100 Extreme Data Storage (ExDS9100) system, to make the research process much more efficient.
HP’s ExDS9100 data storage system enables the end customer to manage substantial data, without having to employ any significant datacenter space, thereby reducing cost. SBI is in the process of developing new treatments for ailments like cancer and we believe that its association with HP will make the research process more efficient and cost-effective, and also drive better process flow.
HP is generating new ideas on a regular basis, which is helping it to diversify its business. It is also making considerable effort to boost revenues across all business segments.
In the recent past, the company has taken several initiatives with regard to its Printing and Notebook business. In the PRINT 09 trade show, the company showcased its latest offerings in its Graphics Solutions Business. The company claims that this segment addresses the $115 billion potential global market opportunity for digital color printing. So this segment offers good business opportunities for the company.
This apart, HP has also taken up the task of enhancing its notebook product line. The company recently came up with new advanced gadgets in this segment. The most notable product was what it claims to be the world's slimmest full-performance notebook PC along with a slim consumer notebook, expected to strike an optimum balance between enhanced performance, mobility and price.
So we believe that these efforts by the company coupled with the gradual revival in IT spending by companies will help the company produce better results going forward.
