Microsoft had a good earnings report, a great earnings report compared to many of the others I have read. The sellers are nit-picking one area of the report, the Operating System software, and ignoring all the rest. The OS division is EARNING tons of cash ... just not as much as expected. Certainly Japan's unfortunate triple whammy of quake, sunami, and reactor damage is affecting a broad range of tech. The tablets, and Microsoft is planning its own, as well as combining with Nokia to build Windows phones ... are a fad, and their benefits and features, compared to a desktop, laptop, or even netbooks is limited by the security risk the size and portability of tablets represent.
I think another individual expressed it well: "The drop in PC sales due to iPads is a fad. The benefits of tablets, like portability also make them targets for theft .... with extreme risk that personal identity info put on portable devices is going to cause a lot of damage to those who don't pay attention to personal security. I should know, I've got a collection of letters from companies advising me my personal info was on "laptops" stolen from employees and outside contractors. When will people learn?"
