When it comes to math ... I am in awe of the Incas and the Mayans. NO computers, NO calculators ( smiling - NO iPods either ) ... yet the Mayan calculations on the cycles of the Moon are only off 30 seconds FIVE THOUSAND years later ... and only because the moon is moving away from the Earth 1/4" per year. I am certain, if the Maya had a laser range finder ... they'd have compensated for that in their cycle formulae.
Here's another scary thought: The seventh century Mayan prophet, Pacal Votan, proclaimed: " if humanity wishes to save itself from biospheric destruction it must return to living in natural time." Centuries later, we do NOT live in natural time ... sun rise ... sun set ... moon rise ... moon set. Most of the SEVEN billion people on this planet live by "the clock", the market clock, and the man made 365/366 day calendar.
-- and more math -- many people think flight, manned flight, started with Wilbur and Orville Wright ... but did it? Ancient writings, and MODELS, all across the planet refer to aircraft with vertical takeoff, hover, as well as space capable, even GRAVITY defying ... with detailed descriptions of engines and weapons that rival todays' technology. Imagination run amok? I hardly think so ... the Egyptions built pyramids, with stones that are so well fitted that a razor blade can't slide in ... that we're STILL trying to figure out how they did it, given the level of their "presumed" technology back then vs ours of today ....
Then we get reports, like the USA jobs report, that WILL be revised, along with all the media reporting adding their "opinion spin" ... spit out at us like it's cast in stone , concrete, accept as FACT .... NOT!.
Math has a VERY important place in history, and in everyones' lives, TODAY, ... even if we aren't thinking about it.
Where is the accuracy? ...
Where is the pride in " If it's worth doing, DO it right the FIRST time! "
.
I hope everyone, as well as your families and friends, have a happy and safe holiday weekend.
