Stock gets three down grades in last 10 days and stock is up second day in a row
Does any one knows about what is going on or some one is trying to buy stock cheaper by down grading and artificiall pushing stock down or a smart buyer stepping in to take advantage of depressed prices.
????
All I know is I took profit today in personal account. I had bought some stock and options and sold on pop up today.
I will buy on dips again.

March 30 2010 - Synaptics downgraded to Neutral from Outperform at Cowen (26.31 )
March 22 - Needham downgrades SYNA to Hold from Buy following a round of channel checks highlighting that SYNA's dominant share position has diminished significantly.
March 19 Oppenheimer downgrades Synaptics (SYNA 27.66) to Perform from Outperform based on channel checks that suggest Synaptics' mobile business continues to struggle with share loss and ASP erosion, and that these factors are undercutting the lift Synaptics should be enjoying from the volume growth in capacitive touch handsets

I haven't looked at SYNA but sometimes a stock gets downgraded but the price target is increased. Another reason could be that the sector that the stock is in is strong. Another reason is another source is recommending the stock (see street.com). Another reason could be underlying options play could cause the stock to go up.

This "could be" a case of "horse/cart" , "chicken/egg", "cause/effect".

But in any case, if a stock rallies on a downgrade then I would say that the prior sell-off caused (created) the downgrade. In other words, the downgrade couldn't cause lower prices because it was (in reality) the effect of lower prices. Another way of saying that is that "Lower prices (the Chicken) laid the egg (the down-grade)"

Well, since I, for the most part, do not use "fundamental analysis" in my arsenal, I do not get too caught up in the upgrades and/or downgrades of stocks.

With that said, I (and my company - $ET FINANCIAL (on Facebook)) use a system that we have developed over many years. Our system (MFA1) is NOT firing a "buy" or a "sell" on this one stock. Therefore, I would not buy it at this time. We wait for our system fired signals in order to avoid all emotion in our trades.

If you would like to see how that system works, please feel free to go to $ET FINANCIAL (on Facebook) and you will see how we fair. The system works well.

Regards,

$ET FINANCIAL
