Buzz on the Blogs

InTheMoneyStocks

InTheMoneyStocks calls the European economies a "Horror Show."

"The Spanish 10 year bond yield soared higher after a bond auction this morning, Even as the European Central Bank vowed to perform their own version of bond purchases. Portugal, Belgium, and Italy, are now next in line for bailouts.

Today all eyes will be on the Federal Reserve Bank. The Fed is expected to keep the Fed funds rate unchanged. The important overnight lending rate to the large major banks  has been at zero percent since December 2008. This has basically given the banks free money while they invest in bonds, stocks and operate a credit card business charging an average of 17.0 percent to customers.

Many customers of the major banks are now outraged that they receive very little interest on the savings accounts they have with these banks. The statement by the Fed this afternoon could cause a short term reaction in the stock market."

JoeCole

JoeCole thinks the market may be running out of steam.

"I'm not officially calling a top in the market now, but just recognizing that it could be based on a couple of extreme indicators. I won't necessarily sell based on this so lets just say I don't have a large appetite for risk right now.

First the ISEE sentiment index is at an all-time high going back as far as I can track to 2006. For those of you not familiar with this indicator, it is similar to the put/call ratio, only inverse, and in my opinion a more accurate measure of options sentiment. In any case, it's astronomically high right now.

The next indicator is the NYSE Bullish Percent index. The indicator is at 78% (historically, extended markets are above 70%). Plus, the NYSE makes a new high, yet the bullish percent for NYSE does not. This means that when the market makes a new high, it is with fewer and fewer stocks each time."
