Gotterdmmerung: Twilight of the Oracles. Why has Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway underperformed the S&P for the past two quarters? http://www.peopleandpicks.com/ticker/BRK.B http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=BRK/B&;p=D&yr=0&mn=6&dy=0&id=p23655364002# Succession worries are the main concern. Does ANYONE have Buffetts knack for putting money to work? The Oracle of Omaha has said (jokingly) he plans to stay on the job until five years after his death. Warren Buffetts Exit Strategy. Warren Buffett recently said when I decide to buy a stock, I intend to hold the stock for life. I dont have an exit strategy. I fear (and apparently others do too) he doesnt have an exit strategy for his position either. Mr. Buffett who just turned 79, and has a knack of beating the averages, has already beat the life expectancy average of the American Male which is 75.65 years. When (not if) he takes ill or chooses to retire, we can expect a precipitous drop in the stock price of Berkshire Hathaway.* Why? Lets face it, he is a rock star of capitalism. The Berkshire annual meeting is considered to be the Woodstock of Capitalism WB does appear to have a huge cult following. Recommendation: Short, brk.a, brk.b Caveat: Warren Buffett may live forever. Good Trading, MAGE *Which, by the way, could be considered a buying opportunity.

Hi MAGE,

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth here. I've looked into the "oracles" method in the past and quickly realized that he is a buy and holder to the extreme. In other words he buys companies not stocks. With the huge amounts he invests, a simple 2 cent price gain can mean millions of dollars if he rebalances like a fund and alot of them also pay dividends.

If anybody's interested in what he and/or Birkshire are holding I found this list. The article is dated June 2/08.

Here's a more complete list dated August 14/08

And this was an interesting read, dated September 23/08.

Hey Joe,

Thanks for the comment.

Sam Walton was a genius in world of discount retail sales.

Warren Buffett is one of the most successful investors in history.

I think we are talking Apples and Orange Juice here.

Hey Gino,

Thanks for the links.

It turns out that Warren Buffett is probably the one who benefits the most from the Government Bailout.
