To me investing in solar is all about short periods of time because these stocks are so volatile. I read a few articles about solar lately. Cost of production are coming down because a key ingredient poly-silicon is in over abundance, price drop is 93% as of a few months ago. This price drop has put solar energy production much closer to a breakeven. When countries in Europe started pulling the plug on government subsidies solar stocks tanked a few years ago. I'm looking SPWR on a pull back, like a lot stocks SPWR has been hot year to date. GE is building a huge solar panel plant. With production costs going down and the big guys (GE) getting in Solar power is not going away. SPWR has some big name investment house attention lately with their 5 energy plays this year. When SPWR pulls back a little I'm in. There are others names left in solar since the industry shake out last year. Solar is still a very risky trade but there are good signs that is could be rewarding risk.

S0olar power is ready for average use as the price of entry has dropped to a reasonable level. Only reason the companies are in dumps is due to over supply and cut throat prices.
Gap, wind, solar are the future for next generation - any companies which survive will be gobbled up by likes of XOM

Actually, LDK (fer instunce) traded from a low near $5 dollahs in 2010 to a high ov $15+ dollahs in 2011. That move had "zero" to do with sooply, demand, pricing, etc. *-) LDK then dumped to a new n improved n lower low from that high. That also had zero to do wit sooply, demand, or pricing. Ifn ya kin figger out what actually drives the price ov LDK ann the restov the soler stocks then you will "know" the prospects fer soler...as well as everythang else *-) 3J

3J you are so right, solar is hard to figure what drives the price of likes of LDK but fraud comes to mind. They are not the first segment to cook the books or China the first country to be involved in cooking the books. I believe some got caught a year or so ago. Anyway I made my pick, I'll be keeping a close eye on it. I will not try to ride out the storm if it comes to solar again.

Did market provide you a good answer to Solar Stocks
Stocks like LDK, YGE, STP TSL were up on big volumes. If you are in those stocks watch price action carefully and may I suggest take some profit
I do have YGE in my portfolio
