People who are familiar with Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ANPI) may still remember that its share price soared 30% one day before 4th quarter earning report in March. Although the result missed expectation, ANPI only had a small pullback compared to the closing price the day before. This reflected investors’ confidence on the company’s prospect.

As of December 31, 2009, ANPI recorded $192.0 million in direct sales from various medical products and $87.7 million in royalties and license fees received from its partners.

Revenue from its Base Medical Products declined by 7% and royalty revenue derived from sales of TAXUS stent systems by BSC declined by 8% in the fourth quarter of 2009 as compared to the fourth quarter of 2008, while Proprietary Medical Products increased by 53% as compared to the fourth quarter of 2008. Taking the world economic environment into consideration, investors have many reasons to believe that ANPI could have much better performance in 2010.

Now here comes the midterm test for ANPI in the spring semester: first quarter of 2010 earning report. ANPI will release earning transcript at 8:00AM (EDT) and hold a conference call at 11:00AM on Tuesday (05/04/2010)

The world economy is recovering, so is the U.S. stock market. Healthcare and Technology are hot sectors this year, and ANPI has the advantage of both. If the company can provide a satisfactory 1st quarter transcript, investors may see huge gains soon. I am quite positive on this.

More catalysts:

“New product 5-FU-Eluting Central Venous Catheter is expecting to commercialize during the first half of this year. New product not only will enrich the ANPI product pipeline, but also will bring new revenue streams to the company.”

“ANPI and partner Athersys announced completion of patient enrollment for its phase I clinical trial of MultiStem(R), its allogeneic stem cell therapy product in February. Top line results of the trial are expected to be announced midyear. This will be another incentive for ANPI’s stock “price.”

“ANPI is now working with its partner to discuss the next step of its lead product candidate Bio-Seal, and news from grapevine said that ANPI is seeking appeals for FDA’s decision .Once succeeds, we expect that ANPI will at least double its current price. Even ANPI needs to file PMA, in the worst case, I believe that Bio-Seal will eventually get a nod from FDA according to the previously positive data. This makes ANPI a good choice for those real value investors. ”—quoted from my previous post.

When APNI has so many catalysts on the way, its current price $1.12 looks too attractive to ignore for no matter short-term or long-term investors.

So will my bet on ANPI’s earning and future be the right decision? Time will tell, and you will know it soon.
